Entry in Myanmar by land is possible but will depend on your visa type (e-visa, transit, business etc..), at which checkpoint you will enter and finally if you are by foot or by car.

Important :

The information below are official information from the Ministry of Tourism, not some news you can find on internet forum about people who "succeed" to do something forbidden (by luck?). Even if these pieces of information are officials ones, they may change very quickly or even not be the same if you ask to MIT, Immigration or Army. They are not always agreed.

If you plan to enter in Myanmar by land, we strongly recommend that you contact Ananda travel to get accurate up-to-date information (and permit if needed). Only local travel agents can process and request a special permit.

Three pagoda pass : No border crossing is possible, either by car or by foot.

Mai Sai-Tachilek crossing : Open from 6H to 18H00. Crossing possible by car (with permit) or by foot. You cannot leave Tachileck for Kentung after 16H00. The road is closed after 16H00.
Be aware that from Tachileck or from Kentung, you must take a plane to reach other parts of Myanmar (it is possible to drive to Inle Lake only if you a have an official guide and a special permit, the procedure is expensive and you need to prepare it 3 weeks ahead, if approved).

Mai Sot-Mya Waddy crossing : Open from 6h or 18H00. You can cross either by foot or by car. If you cross by foot you do not need a special permit (you need a permit by car).

Phu Nam Ron-Htee Khee crossing (near Dawei) : Open from 6h or 18H00. You can cross either by foot or by car. If you cross by foot you do not need a special permit (you need a permit by car).

Ya Naung-Kaw Thaung crossing : Open from 6h or 18H00. You can cross either by foot or by car. If you cross by foot you do not need a special permit (you need a permit by car).

Impossible to cross either by car or by foot. No border crossing.

Muse check point : At today (May 2018) it is not possible to cross for security reason. The area is not safe.

The border is totally closed.
All the border area is

dangerous

and totally closed to tourist. Do not try and do not even try from Bangladesh side, it is also dangerous.

Moreh-Tamu checkpoint : Open from 6h00 to 18h00, you need a special permit to cross, even by foot.

Be aware (2018): If you come in Myanmar from India by land (Tamu border check point), you

MUST

get out of Myanmar by the same checkpoint. It means that you cannot leave by plane from Yangon or Mandalay. It also means you cannot cross the country and leave, by land, to Thailand.
