News and coming 2013-2014 seasons
Hotels rooms prices have already increased a lot in Mandalay and the trend continue for 2013-2014. The main reasons is the lack of rooms, so prices are up, quite a lot and are much more higher than Thailand for a lower quality.
Real four stars hotels like Sedona or Mandalay (good hotels) are really expensive compare to Thailand, but they are also always full... So.
Many news small hotels are currently under construction. Most of them (all !) are only moderne "tower" without any charm, no garden etc.... Rooms will be new, probably confortable (if away from a main road), prices hight, but at least rooms will be more available.
Booking situation : As everywhere in Myanmar, it is extremely difficult to get a room, especially if you want a specific hotel, in November, December, February. Book if possible more than 6 month ahead.
Hotel localization : In Mandalay, most hotels (all) are far from everything, so it does not matter if you are not down town (there is no down town in Mandalay) and most of the time, you will have close to your hotel very local food, very simple or you will need a taxi if you want to go to a specific place.
Weather : Mandalay is a very hot, dry and dusty city. In March, April and May, it is advisable to get a good hotel with air con and electricity (generator). A swimming pool is a nice plus.
2013 Sea Games : Myanmar will host the South Asean games from 12 to 22 December 2013. Mandalay is one of the cities where the governement will take rooms or hotels to host participants.
It is going extremely difficult to get a room.

Yadanarbon
Category : 2 stars modern
The Yadarnbon hotel is located down town, not far from the train station, old palace and some restaurants. The street is relatively quiet. Rooms are new, confortable, very correctly finished, hotel is modern style, staff is nice,price is correct for the quality.
A good choice in Mandalay for this kind of hotel.

Red Canal Hotel
Category : 3 star
A nice charming hotel located not so farm for the city center. The hotel has nice very well decorated rooms, it is a small hotel with nice decoration and a good atmosphere. Rooms are tiny and quite (very expensive), not convenient for a familly or even difficult to put an extra bed, swimming pool is very small.

Royal City Hotel
Category : Good 2 stars hotel
One of our favourite hotel since its opening, we were here
the first day. An excellent quality/price ratio, very friendly
staff, big clean room, good localisation. Air con is window type air con, could be noisy during the hot seaon (february -June) when you really need air con in Mandalay. A very good choice anyway in this category. |

Peackock lodge
Category : very good 1 star hotel - GH-
This hotel is on the eastern part of Mandalay (62 street), not so far (but before) the Woodland hotel. It is a lille easier to get a taxi from the Peacock lodge as it is closed to the main access road to Mandalay.
It is a charming place, nice welcome, nice garden (rare in Mandalay), rooms are more "moderne" than at the Woodland hotel, less charming also, we like the wood panel at the woodland (and the bigger garden).
It is nevertheless a very good choice in this range of price. |

Golden Mandalay Hotel
Category : very good 1 star hotel
Formely the Yadanar Supon hotel, this new simple but charming
hotel is a very good choice in Mandalay. It is clean, a lot
of charm and atmopshere and the owner knows very well the
city and how to manage his hotel.
Nevertheless, it is a very simple hotel, do not expect the same quality (bathroom, air con, rooms) than in a 4**** stars hotel. |

Woodland
Category : 1 star, very charming and relaxing place for Mandalay.
Probably the most relaxing garden in Mandalay, very charming small hotel. It is a simple hotel (1 star), with simple but clean room. The overall feeling is very good, and it is a very pleasant place to stay.
The garden is superb, it is really like an oasis in a city like Mandalay also very hot and dusty.
No other hotel have such garden.
The hotel is very charming, rooms are clean and very correct for the price. Standard rooms are very basic, if you like a little more confort, take the new superior room.
It is a very good choice in Mandalay in this category even if the hotel is a little far from everything, but it is usually the same for all hotels in Mandalay. |

Silver star
Category : 2 stars, modern hotel.
As many other hotels in Mandalay, this is a modern "tower".
At least, the SIlver Star is clean, the quality -price ratio excellent, rooms are clean with quiet air con, the overall decoration is not bad as in some other modern hotels.
It is a confortable place to stay, but it is not a charming hotel and some rooms can be noisy. Skip the breakfast to eat in a Myanmar local restaurant...
