A new beach: Dawei Maungmagin
A project of hotel and resort (as to Ngapali or Ngwe saung)
has been allowed in 2004 by the Burmese government to develop
the very beautiful inshore strip close to Dawei.
The beach the more close to Dawei is the beach of Maungmagin.
There is lot of creeks, the beaches are made if white sand
and the sea is superb.
To reach the beach of Maungmagin, you must go first to Dawei
(Tavoy).
How to go to Dawei
You have 2 ways (and only 2 ways) to go to Dawei.
- By plane, with the opening of a new air
connexion between Yangon Dawei Myeik Kotaung with Air Bagan.,
It is finally possible to go to these cities with a reliable
air company (flight on ATR 42).
- By boat from Sittwe or Kotaung..
Currently, It is impossible to leave or to
go to Dawei by road, train or boat from Yangon, Moulmein or
Myeik (boat ok from Myiek)
The city of Dawei
Dawei is a very pleasant, tropical city, quiet with superb
traditional houses made of wood, stained glass windows and
decorated finely. It is really nicer than the chinese style
modern house you start to find in Yangon and Mandalay.
If you are in Myeik (Mergui) , it would be a pity not to benefit
some to go by Dawei.
The hotels of Dawei
The offer concerning hotels in Dawei is very
weak and the tariffs quite exhorbitants considering the quality
of the hotels.
To May 15, there are 3 hotels and guesthouses in Dawei and
none hotels to the beach. You must make a day trip between
Dawei and the beach (30 minutes of road only) if you want
to swim in the sea or visit the villages around.
